OBSCURA 2025 – Terms & Conditions

Effective for all submissions to the OBSCURA Festival of Surreal and Creative Photography

1. Introduction
These Terms and Conditions govern all submissions to the OBSCURA 2025 exhibition, organised by Karolina Skorek and her curatorial team. By submitting to OBSCURA, you agree to comply with and be bound by the terms outlined herein.

2. Eligibility
• The open call is open to all individuals aged 18 and above, regardless of nationality, education, or artistic background.
• Submissions must be original works created by the applicant. Collaborations are permitted if clearly stated.
• AI-generated or AI-assisted works are not permitted. OBSCURA reserves the right to request proof of creation (e.g., RAW files, working files, or process documentation).

3. Submission Requirements
Artists must submit:
• 1–2 artworks in JPEG format (minimum 2400px on long edge, 300dpi)
• A short artist bio (max 150 words)
• A short artist statement (max 200 words)
• A portrait photograph for promotional use
• Title, year, dimensions, and sale price (optional) for each artwork
All files must be submitted via the official OBSCURA submission form. Submissions via email or alternative methods will not be accepted.

4. Entry Fee
A non-refundable entry fee of £35 is required for each submission (up to 2 works). Payment must be made via PayPal or Stripe using the details provided in the submission form.

5. Selection Process
All submissions will be reviewed by an appointed curatorial panel. Selection is based on:
• Artistic quality
• Originality
• Relevance to the surreal or creative theme
• Suitability for outdoor and/or digital display
All decisions made by the OBSCURA jury are final.

6. Printing and Display
• All selected works will be professionally printed by OBSCURA on weather-resistant materials for outdoor display at Bodrhyddan Hall, North Wales.
• Artists do not need to send physical artworks.
• The festival retains creative control over print size and placement within the venue to ensure curatorial cohesion.

7. Sales and Commission
• Artists may choose to offer their work for sale during the exhibition.
• OBSCURA retains a 50% commission on any sales made through the festival, which contributes to printing and production costs.
• All sales will be handled through direct contact between the buyer and the artist, facilitated by OBSCURA.
• Artists must provide pricing in GBP and include the 50% commission in their pricing.

8. Copyright & Usage Rights
• Artists retain full copyright of their work.
• By submitting, you grant OBSCURA the right to reproduce your submitted works, artist bio, and statement for the following purposes:
• Marketing and promotion of the exhibition
• Social media, website, and newsletter content
• Press and media outreach
• Inclusion in the OBSCURA catalogue, zine, or digital exhibition
• No commercial use beyond festival promotion will be made without additional written consent.

9. Insurance and Liability
• OBSCURA will ensure all works are securely printed and mounted. However, no insurance coverage is provided for damage, theft, or weather-related loss during the outdoor exhibition.
• By submitting, you acknowledge that your work will be displayed in an outdoor environment and accept any associated risks.

10. Withdrawal Policy
• Artists may withdraw their submission before the submission deadline (15 June 2025) by contacting hello@obscurafestival.co.uk.
• Withdrawals after acceptance (1 July 2025) are discouraged, as printing and production may already be underway.
• Entry fees are non-refundable under all circumstances.

11. Data Protection & Privacy
• OBSCURA will collect and store personal data provided during submission in accordance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
• Data will only be used for administrative purposes, artist communication, and festival promotion.
• Your data will never be shared with third parties without your explicit consent.

12. Publicity & Photography
• The OBSCURA festival will be photographed and filmed. By participating, you consent to your work, name, and likeness being documented and used in promotional content.
• Artists may be invited for interviews or spotlight features; participation in such content is optional.

13. Changes and Amendments
OBSCURA reserves the right to amend or update these terms at any time. Any changes will be posted publicly and take immediate effect.
